There are two types of manufacturing of automobile wheels: casting and forging.
casting
At present, there are only three manufacturing methods of cast wheel hubs on the market: gravity casting, low-pressure casting, and casting spinning.
Gravity casting: The manufacturing process is simple, that is, pouring the liquid alloy into the mold to cool and form.
Low-pressure casting: The liquid alloy is pressed into the mold by low pressure.
Casting and spinning: Casting and spinning are divided into two processes: "low-pressure casting plus spinning" and "gravity casting plus spinning". The spoke part is cast, which has the same advantages and disadvantages as the product produced by the casting process; while the rim part is spun, so it has better airtightness and higher strength.
Advantages of cast wheels: low price, no restrictions on shape, will bend after being hit, toughness is relatively good for forging, etc.
forging
Forging forming: The processing method of using forging machinery to apply pressure to the metal billet to cause plastic deformation to obtain forgings with certain mechanical properties, certain shapes, and sizes.
The advantages of forged wheels: high strength, lightweight, good corrosion resistance, accurate size, etc.
Conclusion Of course, intuitively, forging may be the best, because the lighter the wheel, the more helpful the acceleration, deceleration, cornering, fuel consumption, suspension load, and high rigidity is also a reassuring indicator. But in fact, apart from the fact that the price is very different because of the complexity of the manufacturing process (forged wheels are really much more expensive).
